The Goodworx Community Service Program

Throughout the year, we participate in various community service activities that, in the past, have included a blood drive, organizing drives and donations, and trips to the Ronald McDonald House, Briarwood Care and Rehabilitation Center, Elijah’s Promise, and a food bank. The goodworx Foundation is a nonprofit organization and we provide our services free of charge. Because we believe in and instill in our students the value of community service, all students will hereafter be required to participate in at least (but not limited to) TEN hours of community service throughout the 2010-2011 programmatic year. Five hours must be completed between October and January. Failure to complete five hours of community service within this time frame will result in the child’s expulsion from the program. An additional five hours, regardless of the number of hours recorded between October and January, must be completed between February and May. Failure to complete the additional five hours will result in the child’s exclusion from end of the year activities including, but not limited to The goodworx Birthday Party (last day), The Art and Talent Showcase, the annual End-of-the-Year Appreciation Barbecue, any goodworx summer programs, and all reward summer trips.

The goodworx Community Service Program
The goodworx Foundation has established a Community Service or Civic Engagement theme that is infused throughout all of the programs in the MTC Program. Our goal is to provide youth with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become competent, responsible, engaged citizens in a learning environment where they understand their action, or inaction, to the community around them. Through our theme of civic engagement, The goodworx Community Service Program focuses on valuable skills such as leadership, collaboration, decision-making, responsibility, critical thinking, and problem solving. Not only do we focus on service to others via our events, whether it be working with Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen, The Ronald McDonald House Charities, The “Go Green” recycling initiative, The American Red Cross Blood Drives, or Read Across America, we provide structured time for students to reflect on their experiences and take a deeper look at the underlying causes behind the issues they deal with. This approach encourages them to work toward a more sustainable solution, giving them a greater connection with the community that they are apart of.
